Paul Krueger Quintet Plays The Music Of Andrew Hill!

  • The Jazz Station 124 W Broadway Eugene, OR, 97401 United States (map)

A great band!  Paul Krueger - Tpt., Sean Nobel Flannery - Sx., Sean Peterson - Bs., Adam Carlson - Dr. and Torrey Newhart - Pno.

“Reconciliation,” the final track from Andrew Hill’s 1964 album Judgement!, seeks to convey the “adjustment every musician has to make to achieve unity and harmony with the rest of the group.” On this evening, Krueger and his collaborators will attempt to reconcile their collective musical voice with the intimidating and profound works of Andrew Hill.

About Andrew Hill: An innovative pianist and groundbreaking composer/bandleader, Andrew Hill spent most of his career as a jazz musician in relative obscurity. He was born in Chicago, IL, was encouraged by jazz great Earl Hines after taking up piano as a teenager, and studied composition with Paul Hindemith until 1952. In 1954, he performed with Charlie Parker, who told Hill, “I look at melody as rhythm,” words that would guide Hill throughout the rest of his life.
